The pressurized enclosure type of explosion protection (Ex p) makes it possible to operate "non-Ex-approved" devices in the hazardous areas of zones 1, 21, 2 and 22. This type of protection is based on the idea of keeping explosive gas mixtures away from these devices.
This is achieved by operating the device in a pressurized enclosure (Ex p-enclosure) and protecting this Ex p-enclosure against the ingress of explosive gas mixtures by means of constant overpressure with air or an inert gas.
